Double Prize for the Vaiven Company for its show "Yo, la peor del mundo" (I, the worst in the world)

The production "Yo, la peor del mundo / Ni munduko txarrena" by the Guipuzcoan company Vaiven, has received the José María Rodero Special Prize for best show and second prize for best direction, awarded to Olga Margallo, in the national competition for female stage directors, which held its 23rd edition in the Madrid town of Torrejón.

Ninety proposals were submitted to the competition, and three were finalists. "To receive two awards is a source of pride and recognition for our work", explained Ana Pimenta, head of Vaivén, yesterday. "This competition has become a point of reference for companies from all over Spain, and especially for shows directed by women, in a beautiful attempt to make the work of all of them visible", she added

Still on tour

"Despite the difficulties, our show is still on tour, garnering praise from audiences and critics wherever it is performed", recalls Pimenta. The show, which premiered shortly before the pandemic started, will travel to the Almagro Festival in July and will return to different Basque towns in the coming months.

It is a musical show "that tells the story of a woman who confronts everything and everyone in order to be free. With the strength of her verses, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz enchants the Mexican colonial court of a decadent Empire where she becomes a lover of the powerful, a muse of the Golden Age and a victim of a Church that cannot subdue her rebellious spirit".

Antonio Muñoz de Mesa is the author of the text, with Olga Margallo directing and Itxaso Quintana, Nerea Gorriti, Ana Pimenta, Dorleta Urretabizkaia, Ylenia Baglietto and Ugaitz Alegría among the performers. Iñaki Salvador is the author of the original music and musical direction, and the choreography is by Maitane Zalduegi.
