Interview conducted at the Cambridge Soho Club.
One of the most fascinating characters of this Acacias 38 season, which is broadcast every evening by TVE, is that of Maite Zaldúa, who lives in a prohibited relationship with the Camino character played by Aria Biedmar. Everything she lives with Camino, accompanied by her concern as a painter, has turned her into a benchmark. Ylenia is very happy for her character and all that it has meant.

Your character has revolutionized Acacias
Maita Zaldúa arrives to revolutionize Acacias and show that advanced vision of women, where no one trusted that she could defend the rights of workers and gives the color point to Acacias 38. Everyone distrusts her, since she does not fit with her comments . Maite is a woman of today located in the early twentieth century.
And what is it that makes Camino fall in love with her?
I believe that I always defend free love. What she finds in Maite is a way out of routine, of traditionalism. Then see that life can be something else., That there may be a color chart to choose from. It opens a place for her in her brain and makes her fall in love with her ideas, the way she sees life.
And that shakes Maite
Maite is afraid for the first time. She is a very secure woman, and she does not want to suffer again for the love of a woman, and that she is also a minor. She knows what suffering is and not wanting to go through it again because she knows what is to come.

How have you worked the fact that Maite is a painter?
I have been able to understand art. To prepare the character, I contacted a friend who is an artist, and he taught me everything from how to work with a pencil.
Another aspect of Maite is the looks
It is something that has been worked hard. How her gaze changes every time she sees Camino. And I am happy with the result since people have valued it.
This story with Camino has raised many comments on the networks. Do you think that your story can contribute something to eliminate prejudices?
I think that this type of character is more necessary than we think. Fortunately, in Spain it is quite accepted but there are many countries in the world that homosexuality is condemned. And suddenly you live it, and they write to you and thank you because you are helping them. And I see how much road remains to be done.

Your beginnings on television were with the legendary series Goenkale
A series of 21 years in broadcast, no less. I think that 80% of Basque actors have passed through there. I had been through drama school and saw what the professional world was like. Suddenly you get in front of the camera with a series like Goenkale and you see that you have to go fast and you learn a lot.
In theater you were in Niños dejad de joder con la pelota
We did the show because I had been in rhythmic gymnastics and Lander Otaola in soccer. We write it between the two of us. We told our lives and how we went to acting.
About rhymic gymnastics. Does it help you a lot having practiced it?
There is a connection that you have with your physique that you inadvertently make ... And I realize it when I see myself in Acacias 38. I have it embedded in my body.
At the cinema we saw you in "La Higuera de los Bastardos"
Karra Elejalde was wonderful to work with. And notice that in "8 Apellidos Catalanes" where I was in a scene we had not coincided on the scene and I remember how at one point we saw each other and he told me ". Man you have to be Basque with how nice you are ”. And then we are in "La Higuera de los Bastardos" He is a great partner.
What did it mean to participate in Acacias 38?
This profession is full of continuous satisfactions. Every job is challenging and things happen to you. And I had a dream, which was to work on a daily series. And that has already happened.

And the next dream?
I say it here to see if it is fulfilled like that of Acacias 38. My dream would be a Goya, and not for the award itself but for having been awarded for a special performance. Go up there, pick up the Goya and say a few words. That's my wish.
To end. Do you feel especially satisfied to play a character like Maite in Acacias 38?
Much. And I want to thank from here all the support we have felt. Work is by and for something and is not mere entertainment. With the history that Maite and Camino have, you see that we are contributing to the improvement of society. That is the greatest satisfaction.
