Ylenia Baglietto: “Cuando interpretar un personaje LGTBI te das cuenta que hacen falta referentes”
Ylenia Baglietto (Eibar, 1986) también trabaja y trabaja durante la pandemia. A pesar de tener sólo 34 años, la eibarresa tiene una amplia experiencia en teatro, televisión y cine. Además, en febrero estrenará junto a Lander Otaola la obra de teatro Amor y humor.
No eres nueva en el teatro pero con esta nueva situación que vivimos, ¿Cómo lo llevas?
Bastante bien, me estoy acomodando a esta nueva situación y lo estoy asumiendo y pensando en lo que se puede hacer ahora estoy de gira con un musical llamado “Yo La Peor del Mundo” de Vaivén Producciones S.L.. Es cierto que la capacidad de las salas se ha reducido al 50%, pero la estamos cumpliendo. Esto te da una alegría tremenda, te da la fuerza para seguir adelante.
Aún así has trabajado mucho durante la pandemia. Durante el confinamiento, has participado en la serie Etxekoak, ¿Has aprendido mucho de esta experiencia?
Imagina, lo hemos hecho todo desde casa nosotros mismos. Hemos sido actores, maquilladores, técnicos del vestuario... Estábamos solos en casa con el ordenador, el teléfono, con los objetos que utilizan los influencers, con eso hemos hecho una teleserie. Cuando recibimos la llamada nos decían que tenían un trabajo para que hiciéramos desde casa llamado “Etxekoak”. Contábamos las cosas del día a día, cotidianas y tuvo mucho éxito. En aquellos días todos estábamos viviendo lo mismo, yo creo que la gente se sintió muy identificada.
Si nos remontamos a los inicios, practicabas gimnasia rítmica, ¿querrías haber sido gimnasta?
Sí. Mi hermana me hizo un regalo. Ha digitalizado todas las competiciones y todos los ejercicios que tenía en cintas VHS, he visto todos los campeonatos desde que empecé en la gimnasia hasta que lo dejé y de cuando fui campeona de España también. Flipaba cuando los veía. Era yo, mi cuerpo, pero en otro sitio. Recordaba como era en aquel tiempo pero lo recordaba de otra forma. Se ve que desde pequeña siempre tuve ganas de hacer algo.
¿Cuándo te diste cuenta que querías ser actriz?
Con 15 años vi la serie “Un Paso Adelante”. Allí veía como había escuelas en las que
podrías aprender teatro, baile... Y les dije a mis padres que quería acudir a una de esas escuelas y aprender interpretación, canto y danza... Así me di cuenta de lo que quería hacer.
Has realizado teatro y televisión, incluso has tenido una nueva experiencia en la televisión de España. Haber participado en la serie Acacias38 ha cambiado todo un poco, tu personaje se ha hecho muy famoso. ¿Cómo lo has vivido?
Al principio lo viví como un trabajo más, es verdad que fue un salto importante. Participé en “Presunto Culpable” con la misma productora y me llamaron directamente para hacer el personaje de Maite Zaldúa. Es una serie de misión diaria y lo tomé como un reto. De pronto te das cuenta que tiene mucho éxito y ahí empiezan a cambiar las cosas, sobre todo lo he notado en las redes sociales. Ahora los seguidores son de todo el mundo. Aun así, camino por la calle igual, muy tranquila. Pero en las redes todo es a lo grande, me envían regalos, me escriben a diario...
¿Tienes muchos seguidores de América Latina?
De todo el mundo, pero sobre todo de América Latina. También me sigue mucha gente de Europa, incluso de Asia, donde también hay un club de fans de Ylenia y Maitino en China.
Maitino es el Ship de la pareja. Yo no sabía lo que significaba, lo he aprendido ahora, son las nuevas palabras que se utilizan en la redes.
¿Qué tiene de especial ese personaje para tener tanto éxito?
Tu personaje es lesbiana y eso ha encendido una empatía y atención hacia el personaje...
Cuando te metes en el papel de un personaje LGTBI te das cuenta que el mundo necesita referentes; la ficción también necesita referentes. Hemos visto más relaciones entre hombres pero entre mujeres no tanto.
Además, la serie está ambientada en otra época...
Al principio la serie la veían más las abuelas, ahora se han dado cuenta que también lo ven los jóvenes. Por las tardes, hay muchos jóvenes con sus abuelas viendo la serie, porque es interesante lo que vean y cuando hay personajes de este tipo, es mucho más interesante.
Todo esto provocó otro tipo de relación con tus seguidores, ¿verdad?
Sí. Al principio solo tenía unos 3000 seguidores en la redes, ahora tengo más de 25.000. Ha sido un gran cambio en poco tiempo. Recibo de todo, cartas de amor por el tipo de personaje, etc. Siempre nos han contado estas cosas, pero cuando las vives es impresionante. Yo pensaba que hoy en día no ocurrían este tipo de cosas, pero ocurren y te das cuenta que hay gente que quiere agradecer tu trabajo. Para nosotros es muy emocionante. Al principio pensaba que solo sería por este personaje, pero ahora me doy cuenta que sigue en toda mi trayectoria. La serie Etxekoak, por ejemplo, lo veían desde Latino América y algunos están aprendiendo euskera para poder entenderlo.
También han hecho una aplicación ¿verdad?
Han creado una aplicación llamada Fan Club Ylenia Baglietto, lo lleva una chica de Valencia. También ha creado una web maravillosa.
Estas seguidoras vinieron a Olite para ver el espectáculo “Yo La Peor del Mundo”. Las conocí allí y me trajeron un montón de regalos.

Sobre el escenario has hecho de todo: bailar, cantar, teatro para mayores, para niños, clásicos… Has hecho mucho trabajo para ser tan joven…
Tengo una trayectoria muy bonita, siempre he sido muy valiente. Muchas veces me tiro a la piscina y luego pienso que es demasiado grande para mí. Pero así se aprende. Tienes que intentar probar y luego valorar qué se puede hacer. En la vida también soy así. Desde el
principio decidí hacer de todo. Ahora cuando echo la vista atrás me doy cuenta que al principio hacía de todo ahora tengo que decir que no algunos trabajos, bien porque pienso que ya lo he hecho o porque pienso que no lo puedo hacer.
He pasado muchos años diciendo que sí a todo. Eso me ha llevado a hacer muchísimas cosas: teatro, Zarzuela, musicales, teatros infantiles, para mayores, drama, clásicos...
También has hecho cine. No tiene nada que ver ni con teatro ni con televisión ¿Con qué te sientes más cómoda?
Me gusta todo. Siempre he tenido más oportunidades en el teatro.
En el cine siempre he hecho personajes de segunda. Esos personajes no tienen ni tiempo ni oportunidad de evolución. Tengo muchas ganas de hacer algún personaje secundario importante o un protagonista. Me gusta mucho el cine, tiene algo que ver entre la tele y el teatro como si fuese una mezcla. En el cine, se ensaya para cada acto como en el teatro y luego la posproducción tiene más que ver con la televisión.
Las series de televisión son mucho más rápidas. Lo haces y lo olvidas.
¿Qué personaje de teatro te gustaría?
No quiero repetir personajes, quiero hacer personajes nuevos, los clásicos se han interpretado demasiado y creo que debemos tender a hacer cosas nuevas.
El teatro es trabajo en grupo, se crea una pequeña comunidad en torno a una obra... Yo nunca me veo a mi sola, siempre hay un grupo. No solo es el grupo de actores, sino también todos los que están detrás.
Todas esas personas no se les ve pero sin ellas no iríamos a ningún sitio.
En el teatro se crea una familia. Durante los meses que estás trabajando se convierten en tus mejores amigos. Luego se termina el proyecto y tal vez no los veas en mucho tiempo pero has trabajado cuerpo a cuerpo con ellos.
En el teatro también tenéis la respuesta del público…
Los aplausos son tan especiales... Ahora en tiempos de pandemia mucho más especiales si cabe aún. Los espectadores agradecen que estemos en el escenario y nosotros que estén en los asientos. Los espectadores quieren transmitir ese calor y se nota mucho.
Sigues trabajando en “Yo La Peor del Mundo”.
Si, nos queda una función en Torrejón de Ardoz, otra en Mungia y una última en Galicia.
Es una comedia musical que cuenta la vida de sor Juana Inés de la cruz. Era una escritora feminista y escribió el primer poema feminista. Se cuenta su vida e Iñaki Salvador ha puesto música a sus poemas.
Es una vida muy interesante y se conoce muy poco sobre la trayectoria de esta mujer. Hay que agradecer que se lleve a las tablas. Habría que imaginarse lo que era ser escritora y mujer en aquella época, además era lesbiana y que por ello la llevaron a un convento. Escribía a escondidas en el convento, creo que nadie la conoce por haber sido mujer.
Es otro ejemplo para darnos cuenta de la cantidad de historias que nos quedan por contar ¿verdad?
Para ello debemos contar con el teatro, la televisión o los audiovisuales.
El teatro se utiliza más para contar este tipo de historias. Nos falta introducir este tipo de personajes en los audiovisuales, sobre todo mujeres, no debemos tener miedo.
¿Vas a estrenar obra nueva con Lander Otaola?
Hace tiempo que teníamos la idea de crear una obra de teatro. Hace cinco años hicimos la obra “Niños Dejad de Joder a la Pelota” en el teatro Arriaga, en una sala pequeña. Por ello, tras cinco años hemos pensado hacer otra obra, estamos haciendo nuestros sueños realidad.
Si el trabajo no llega, ¿hay que crearlo?
Ahora más que nunca estamos en un momento muy raro. No sabes si tendrás trabajo o no lo tendrás… Por lo tanto hay que crearlo. La obra se llama “Amor y Humor”. No queremos decir mucho sobre la obra, solo te digo que estamos los dos solos en el escenario. Seremos Lander e Ylenia no habrá personajes.
Naiel Ibarrola estará al piano y la música será en directo. Es un recital autobiográfico cómico y habrá muchas sorpresas. También habrá un homenaje a la cultura.
¿Hay que darle importancia a la cultura?
Ahora más que nunca. Nosotros lo necesitamos pero la gente también nos necesita.
Habéis creado la obra vosotros, ¿habéis hecho todo vosotros?
Si lo hemos hecho nosotros. Hemos contado con la ayuda de la productora CID y se estrenará el 12 de febrero en el Palacio Euskalduna, luego lo intentaremos vender.
¿Tiene que ser también experto en ello el actor?
En esta profesión y si quieres sacar adelante tu trabajo debes de fijarte en todo y en el teatro más que en el mundo audiovisual.
En el mundo audiovisual siempre hay una productora detrás, porque llevar a cabo un proyecto, en el mundo audiovisual sin dinero es mucho más difícil. Nosotros al ser pareja, ensayamos en casa.
Naiel Ibarrola en directo con el piano menudo privilegio… Para nosotros ha sido un regalo conocerlo.
Trabajamos muy bien juntos. Como músico, no se realiza el mismo trabajo dos veces y eso es precioso para nosotros, tiene sorpresas en cada momento.
Hablando de música he leído que estás aprendiendo a tocar la guitarra para componer canciones.
Hacía mucho que quería aprender a tocar la guitarra. De pequeña fui al conservatorio, quería tocar el violín, pero también tenía entrenamientos.
Entrenaba tres horas diarias y más tarde fueron cinco horas de entrenamiento. Tuve que elegir entre la gimnasia rítmica o tocar un instrumento.
Elegí la gimnasia y hoy en día tengo un poco de pena por ello, he empezado a aprender a tocar la guitarra.
Ya que has nombrado en la gimnasia rítmica... requiere mucha disciplina ¿verdad?
Si. Empecé a entrenar con cuatro años y cuando tenía siete vino una entrenadora desde Rusia. Entrenaba en el club Ipurua. Eligió algunas de nosotras y empezamos a entrenar más duro.
Con 9 años fuimos al campeonato de España y lo gané . En aquel momento, me federaron y empecé a competir más. Entrenaba de 3 a 5 horas diarias. Iba al colegio y entrenaba no hacía otra cosa. También eran muy estrictos con el peso.
Siempre hemos oído que es muy sacrificado…
Cuando yo entrenaba la moda era tener un cuerpo muy alargado como la rusas: tenías que ser como ellas pero yo, era como era.
¿Cómo ves la gimnasia rítmica hoy en día?
Ha cambiado mucho ahora tenemos más información sobre el físico sobre la nutrición y sobre el aspecto psicológico hay mucha más aceptación.
¿Sigues practicando hoy en día?
Hago deporte todos los días y cuando termino realizo los ejercicios de estiramiento de gimnasia rítmica, la gente en el gimnasio siempre se queda mirando.
De vez en cuando me gusta introducir algún ejercicio en las obras de teatro.

You are not new in the theater but with this new situation we live in, how are you doing?
Quite well, I'm getting used to this new situation and I'm assuming it and thinking about what can be done now I'm touring with a musical called "Yo La Peor del Mundo" by Vaiven Producciones S.L.. It is true that the capacity of the theaters has been reduced to 50%, but we are fulfilling it. This gives you tremendous joy, it gives you the strength to go on.
Even so, you have worked hard during the pandemic. During the confinement, you have participated in the Etxekoak series, have you learned a lot from this experience?
Imagine, we did everything from home ourselves. We were actors, make-up artists, wardrobe technicians.... We were alone at home with the computer, the phone, with the objects used by the influencers, with that we have made a TV series. When we received the call they told us that they had a job for us to do from home called "Etxekoak". We talked about day-to-day, everyday things and it was very successful. In those days we were all living the same thing, I think people felt very identified.
If we go back to your beginnings, you practiced rhythmic gymnastics, did you always wanted to be a gymnast?
Yes, my sister gave me a gift. She digitalized all the competitions and all the exercises I had on VHS tapes, I watched all the championships from when I started gymnastics until I quit and when I was Spanish champion too. I was amazed when I saw them. It was me, my body, but in another place. I remembered how I was at that time but I remembered it differently. You can see that since I was little I always wanted to do something.
When did you realize you wanted to be an actress?
When I was 15 I saw the series "Un Paso Adelante". There I saw how there were schools where
you could learn theater, dance... And I told my parents that I wanted to go to one of those schools and learn acting, singing and dance.... That's how I realized what I wanted to do.
You have done theater and television, you even had a new experience in Spanish television. Having participated in the series Acacias38 has changed everything a bit, your character has become very famous. How did you live it?
At first I experienced it as just another job, it's true that it was an important leap. I participated in "Presunto Culpable" with the same production company and they called me directly to play the character of Maite Zaldúa. It is a daily mission series and I took it as a challenge. What is so special about this character to be so successful? Your character is a lesbian and that has ignited an empathy and attention towards the character?
When you get into the role of an LGTBI character you realize that the world needs referents; fiction also needs referents. We have seen more relationships between men but not so much between women.
Besides, the series is set in a different era...
At the beginning the series was watched more by grandmothers, now they have realized that young people also watch it. In the afternoons, there are many young people with their grandmothers watching the series, because it is interesting what they see and when there are characters of this type, it is much more interesting.
All this led to a different kind of relationship with your followers, didn't it?
Yes. At the beginning I only had about 3,000 followers,now I have more than 25,000. It's been a big change in a short time. I get everything, love letters because of the type of character, etc. We've always been told these things, but when you live them it's impressive. I thought that nowadays this kind of thing doesn't happen, but it does and you realize that there are people who want to thank you for your work. For us it is very exciting. I have spent many years saying yes to everything. That has led me to do a lot of things: theater, Zarzuela, musicals, children's theater, theater for adults, drama, classics...
You have also made movies. It has nothing to do with theater or television. What do you feel most comfortable with?
I like everything. I've always had more opportunities in theater.
In cinema I've always played second-rate characters. Those characters have no time or opportunity to evolve. I really want to play an important secondary character or a protagonist. I like cinema very much, it has something to do between TV and theater as if it were a mixture. In cinema, you rehearse for each act as in theater and then post-production has more to do with television.
TV series are much faster. You do it and forget it.
Which theater character would you like to play?
I don't want to repeat characters, I want to do new characters, the classics have been interpreted too much and I think we should tend to do new things.
Theater is a work group, a small community, is created around a play?
I never see myself alone, there is always a group. It's not only the group of actors, but also all those who are behind.
You don't see all those people, but without them we wouldn't go anywhere.
In the theater you create a family. During the months you are working they become your best friends. Then the project ends and you may not see them for a long time but you have worked hand in hand with them.
In the theater you also have the audience's response...
The applause is so special.... Now in times of pandemic, even more special if possible. The spectators are grateful that we are on stage and we are grateful that they are in the seats. The spectators want to transmit that warmth and it really shows.
You are still working on "Yo La Peor del Mundo".
Yes, we have one more show in Torrejón de Ardoz, another in Mungia and a last one in Galicia.

The theater is used more to tell this type of stories. We need to introduce this type of characters in audiovisuals, especially women, we should not be afraid.
Are you going to premiere a new play with Lander Otaola?
We have had the idea of creating a play for a long time. Five years ago we did the play "Niños Dejad de Joder a la Pelota" at the Arriaga theater, in a small theater. So, after five years we have thought of doing another play, we are making our dreams come true.
If the work doesn't come, is it necessary to create it?
Now more than ever we are in a very strange moment. You don't know if you will have a job or not... So you have to create it. The play is called "Amor y Humor". We don't want to say much about the play, just tell you that we are both alone on stage. We will be Lander and Ylenia, there will be no characters.

Is it necessary to give importance to culture?
Now more than ever. We need it, but people also need us.
You have created the play, have you done everything yourselves?
Yes, we did it ourselves. We have had the help of the production company CID and it will be premiered on February 12 at the Euskalduna Palace, then we will try to sell it.
Does the actor also have to be an expert in it?
In this profession and if you want to get ahead in your work you have to look at everything and in the theater more than in the audiovisual world.
In the audiovisual world there is always a production company behind, because carrying out a project in the audiovisual world without money is much more difficult. As a couple, we rehearse at home.
Naiel Ibarrola live with the piano, what a privilege... For us it has been a gift to meet him. We work very well together. As a musician, you don't do the same job twice and that's precious for us, he has surprises at every moment.
Speaking of music, I read that you are learning to play the guitar to compose songs.
I've wanted to learn to play the guitar for a long time. When I was little I went to the conservatory, I wanted to play the violin, but I also had training.
I trained three hours a day and later it was five hours of training. I had to choose between rhythmic gymnastics or playing an instrument.
I chose gymnastics and today I have a little regret about it, I have started to learn to play the guitar.
Since you mentioned rhythmic gymnastics... it requires a lot of discipline, doesn't it?
Yes. I started training when I was four years old and when I was seven a coach came from Russia. She trained at the Ipurua club. She chose some of us and we started to train harder.
When I was nine we went to the Spanish championship and I won it. At that time, I was federated and started to compete more. I trained 3 to 5 hours a day. I would go to school and train, not do anything else. They were also very strict with the weight.
We have always heard that it is very sacrificing?
When I was training, the fashion was to have a very elongated body like the Russians: you had to be like them, but I was the way I was.
How do you see rhythmic gymnastics today?
It has changed a lot now we have more information about the physique, about nutrition and about the psychological aspect, there is much more acceptance.
Do you still practice today?
I do sports every day and when I finish I do the rhythmic gymnastics stretching exercises, people in the gym always stare at me.
From time to time I like to introduce some exercise in the plays.
