In a few months' time, the Italian public of Una Vita will begin to know her as Maite Zaldua, a fascinating painting teacher who will burst into the heart of Camino Pasamar (Ariad Bedmar), starting a Sapphic love story that will be especially hampered by Felicia (Susana Soleto) and the narrow-minded, intolerant mentality of 1913.
Playing Maite will be the Basque actress Ylenia Baglietto, who in a short time has become a beloved vow in Spain and in different parts of the world. In Tv Soap we interview her to ask her some questions about her next entry in the telenovela...

Let's start with a simple question: who is Maite?
She is a woman with very clear ideas, very progressive for the time she is living. She cannot be satisfied with the idea of living in a classical and sometimes classist society. She wants to show herself in a different and unconventional way through her art and is a strong defender of workers' rights. I think she is a very brave woman. At the beginning of the 20th century, the moment when Una Vida was established, it was very difficult to show herself as what she really was. You didn't always have the courage to appear different from what society required you to be. Maite, on the other hand, is strong, with firm ideas. And, of course, she is a great artist, very capable.
Maite will live a deep love story with Camino Pasamar. What was it like to stage a homosexual love on a set of soap operas in 1913?
As you can imagine, initially the relationship between Maite and Camino will be clandestine, also because at that time it was very difficult for people to accept a bond between two women. For this reason they will have to face several obstacles and there will be times when everyone will go against Maite because of her way of life in the first place. However, I believe that "Maitino", as we are called by fans all over the world, can be an example and a help for all those women who are in the same condition. A reasoning that can obviously be extended to gay men as well. Maite and Camino transmit a beautiful message because they make the public understand that there are various types of love, which must be respected and accepted in the same way.
Even if we Italians did not see Maite on stage, can I ask you what was the most difficult plot to perform?
Of course. It was very hard the part where Maite was locked up in prison. I had to cry for many hours and play with the pain, as my character was beaten in prison because of her sexual condition. Playing with the pain and not forgetting it when you say other things with your mouth was very difficult. I had to be very careful with the details. It can happen that you exaggerate or forget about it. I had to find the right mix. But that was the deepest part of Maite Zaldua in Acacias 38.
Who did you relate to more than your colleagues?
I spent most of my time with Aria Bedmar, who played Camino, and with Susana Soleto, who was Felicia in the telenovela. I already knew Felicia because we had worked together before. We lived the set of Acacias 38 as a gift from destiny. Besides her, there was also Gurutze Beitia, the maid Arantxa. The three of us were together a lot: being Basque, we also travelled together to visit our relatives.
How did you get to the set of the Acacias? Did you do the audition?
Actually, I auditioned for the series Presunto Culpable, which was successfully broadcast on Antena 3. That was also produced by Boomerang Tv, the same as Una Vita. One day, my producer called me to tell me that I had been nominated for the role of Maite, which I got after about two weeks without auditioning again. The transition to Presunto Culpable, where I only shot the end of the season, was therefore important in order to reach the cast of the soap opera that you Italians also love.
If I could describe you with three adjectives...
I am a happy, constant and positive person. Life can also give you negative and terrible things, but I always try to be positive and cheerful. I believe that this is the only way to move forward, because bad things will always happen in the world. So you have to have a positive attitude. If I have a clear goal, I work hard to achieve it, even if it costs me a lot of sweat. I think I always have to work hard to make my talent last.
What is your relationship with your fans?
I must say that, every day, I receive at least fifty messages from people congratulating me on my work. It is impossible to answer to each one, but obviously I am grateful to the fans for all the affection they show me.
Thanks to Maite, I got even closer to the social media, basically because she and Camino are really followed all over the world and these means allow me to be in close contact with all my fans, with whom I really enjoy interacting.
