Aria Bedmar and Ylenia Baglietto review the Maitino fan phenomenon and what a spin-off would be like

The actresses of Camino and Maite explain the symbol for the LGTB collective that this couple from 'Acacias38' has become.

Acacias 38' introduced Maitino, the couple formed by the characters of Maite and Camino. Although the plot was brief, it touched the hearts of viewers, who refuse to let it end here and demand continuity, because the Maitino fandom is more alive than ever. In the middle of LGTBIQ+ Pride week, actresses Aria Bedmar and Ylenia Baglietto visit us on 'Tele de Barrio'.

The phenomenon of this couple from the Televisión Española and Boomerang series caught the actresses by surprise, and they shot to fame overnight. Since it was aired, they have become a point of reference for many people and icons in a large number of countries. The plot began to air when they were just finishing filming, but even so, they say that they included certain things at the end, such as the theme of the lasso, as they saw that it had become a symbol of this couple.

The plot came to an end, and shortly afterwards the series would come to an end. However, some time later, Bedmar and Baglietto were the first to be surprised to see that so many people wanted to know more about Maite and Camino. A podcast was even made about their life in Paris, but now the fandom wants to go one step further and is asking for an audiovisual spin-off. One of the latest moves of the fans has been to make a crowdfunding to raise money to put a banner asking for this project in front of Televisión Española. There are few fans as many as Maitino's, who constantly send love letters and the occasional indecent proposal. And what would this spin-off be like? The actresses recount the proposals that were put on the table and come to a conclusion that convinces them both. "We have the most difficult thing, which is the people who want to see us. That's why it should come out," they say.

During the interview, we also give way to a section in which we review the evolution of lesbian characters on television, trying to analyse how they were treated years ago and how they are treated now. In addition, we play with Aria and Ylenia to pair different female characters from Spanish fiction and create new shippings between them, such as Maca and Esther in 'Hospital Central'; the '#Luimelia'; Maca and Rizos in 'Vis a vis'; Silvia and Pepa in 'Los hombres de Paco'; or Mencía and Rebeka in 'Élite'.
